MRI or Magnetic Resonance Imaging requires no breaks and unlike CT scans or X-rays, an MRI do not use ionizing radiation. Therefore an MRI is harmless to a patient, however the feeling of claustrophobia can be unpleasant to some. Open MRI is a solution and can provide a degree of comfort since the procedure can take anywhere from 30-60 minutes.

A herniated disc, is a tear in the outer, fibrous ring of an intervertebral disc which allows the soft, central portion stick out beyond the damaged rings. This is a major cause of severe, Chronic Pain and is associated with spinal fractures and spinal deformity. Basically the disc is misaligned due to damage suffered to it.
